Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 6 pieces medium apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or other firm apples
  • 6 tablespoons butter Pat of butter for each apple
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar For sweetness
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon Adjust to taste
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Pecans or walnuts are great options
For the Dough and Sauce
  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit or pie dough Store-bought is fine
  • 1 cup Sprite or ginger ale For the sauce
For Serving
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream To serve with the dumplings
  • to taste caramel sauce Optional drizzle for extra sweetness

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples using a veggie peeler and knife.
  3. Wrap each apple with the dough, stuffing with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Baking
  1. Place the wrapped apples in a buttered baking dish.
  2. Pour the soda around the apples, then sprinkle with more cinnamon and sugar.
  3. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and the sauce is bubbling.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, ladled with syrup from the baking dish over the dumplings.
  2. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

These dumplings can be assembled ahead of time and chilled, baked just before serving. Leftovers can be frozen and reheated in the oven.
